JOHANNESBURG - Charl Schwartzel opened with four straight birdies to card a 6-under 66 on Saturday and surge five shots clear after the third round of the South African Open.Schwartzel moved to 13-under 203 to put himself in position for a first victory at his home open at Glendower Golf Club. The 2011 Masters winner started superbly, and although he also made two bogeys, he had eight birdies in all to open up a gap at the first European Tour event of 2015.Schwartzel is aiming to bounce back from a winless 2014. Englands Matthew Fitzpatrick (67) and Scotlands David Drysdale (68) were tied for second.Five-time winner Ernie Els had a recovery of sorts after slipping out of contention with a 77 on Friday. He had a 69 to move up to a tie for 20th. Sammie Coates Texans Jersey . The (11-11-4) Jets are seventh in the Central Division with 26 points. Sammie Coates Jersey . - Novak Djokovic beat John Isner 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-1 on Saturday to reach the final of the BNP Paribas Open, where hell resume his longtime rivalry with Roger Federer.MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Grizzlies ratcheted up their defence to avoid a back-to-back sweep by the two best teams in the Eastern Conference. And, in the meantime, Memphis kept its spot in the Western Conference playoff race. Mike Conley scored 21 points, Zach Randolph added 18 points and 13 rebounds, and the Grizzlies held the Indiana Pacers to their lowest output of the season in an 82-71 victory on Saturday night. Several Grizzlies players said it may have been their most complete game of the season. The victory came after Memphis lost 91-86 at Miami on Friday night. "It started from the defensive intensity, and it was consistent," Conley said. "On offence, we moved the ball well. We were efficient with it, but defensively, we really locked down and communicated." Mike Miller added 13 points as Memphis moved a game ahead of Phoenix for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Marc Gasol, returning after spraining his ankle Friday night, had 10 points and nine rebounds. Lance Stephenson led the Pacers with 15 points and eight rebounds, while David West added 10 points, but was 5 of 15 from the field. Paul George, the Pacers leading scorer at 22.1 points per game, was held to eight points, missing eight of his 10 shots, and Indiana shot 37 per cent for the game. "We couldnt score at all," said Pacers centre Roy Hibbert, who was in foul trouble and ended the night with four points and no rebounds. "Thats the basic thing. I think we had a lot of contested 2s. Guys were trying, and they were playing hard, but for some reason, something was a little off." Indiana, which allows a league-low 35.4 points per game in the paint, surrendered 46 to Memphis, which also outrebounded Indiana 47-35. The Pacers only lead in the game came at 3-2. Gasol, who was treated for a Grade 1 left ankle sprain sustained in Fridays loss to the Heat, was a game-time decision. He was on medication and didnt warm up before the game. "I wanted to save every step I was going to take for the game," said Gasol, adding that the medication made it where he could barely feel his hands or face. "It definitely helped the purpose, and made it worth it because we won the game.dddddddddddd" Memphis, which built a double-digit lead in the first half, maintained the advantage through the third period as the Pacers seemed to be dragging. Through three periods, Indiana was still under 37 per cent, and George had been limited to only seven shots and six points. "Its the offensive end where we didnt play well," George said. "We didnt get into a rhythm. . If you hold a team to 82 points, you are playing pretty good defence." Memphis continued to maintain the double-digit lead, keeping the Pacers down 10 to 14 points through most of the fourth. "We were a little bit too indecisive and hesitant with the basketball," Indiana coach Frank Vogel said. "We had poor shooting nights from a number of guys." As was expected with two of the best defensive teams in the league, the first half was a low scoring affair despite Memphis shooting 46 per cent. The Pacers were at 32 per cent. That helped Memphis carry a 43-30 lead into the break as Miller connected on four of his first five shots in the second period, all of them from outside the arc, for all of his 13 points in the game. "If you take away Mike Millers 3s in the first half, this is a college score in terms of the game." West said. But the Grizzlies said the performance was important after a Miami game they thought they could have won. They also mentioned that it was an important confidence-builder for the stretch run. "We were in attack mode most of the night on both offence and defence," Memphis coach Dave Joerger said. "That is as complete of a win as we have had all season." NOTES: Pacers C Andrew Bynum remained inactive for the fourth game with swelling and soreness in his right knee. ...The previous low for points in a game for Indiana was 73 against Dallas on Feb. 12. ... Indianas three-game win streak against the Grizzlies was snapped. .Memphis has won nine straight at home. .The Pacers lost for only the second time this season when holding an opponent under 90 points. They were 26-1 entering the game. MOORESVILLE, N.C. - Canadas Alex Tagliani will drive for Team Penske in two NASCAR Nationwide Series road course races this season. Tagliani will compete for the team on June 21 at Road America and Aug. 16 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Hell be behind the wheel of the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford that AJ Allmendinger used to win both races last season. "This is a great opportunity to get back in a NASCAR Nationwide Series car and to do it for one of the best teams in the series and one of the greatest owners the sport has ever seen -- Roger Penske," Tagliani said in a release. "Ive been able to run for The Captain one other time in my career in a stock car and we were so close to winning the race. This gives me two great chances to get my first Nationwide Series win. "And with the team winning both of these races last year, I guess you could say the pressure is on me to get the job done this season." Tagliani, from Lachenaie, Que. has competed on several circuits in recent years. He is a former Indianapolis 500 pole winner, capturing the prestigious pole position in 2011. "I have known Alex for a long time and he has driven for our team before, so he was the ideal choice to race the Discount Tire Ford for these upcoming road course events," Penske said. "Alex is a proven winner in both open-wheel and stock car competition. He has competed for wins each of the last two times he has raced in the Nationwide Series, including with Team Penske back in 2011. I think he, (crew chief) Jeremy Bullins and the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford team will be tough to beat at both Road America and Mid-Ohio this season." Brad Marchand Jersey . Boston Bruins Jerseys .com) - Thursday marks the official debut of a new dirt racing surface at Meydan Racecourse.TORONTO -- Hes been snubbed a final time by the Baseball Writers Association of America, but Roberto Alomar believes theres a spot in Cooperstown for Jack Morris. Morris was denied induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday, his 15th and final year on the writers ballot. The veteran right-hander was named on 61.5 per cent of BWAA votes, well short of the 75 per cent minimum requirement. "You feel disappointed but on the other hand its something I cant vote for," Alomar, currently a special advisor with the Blue Jays, said Thursday. "He has my vote. "I would love to see him in the Hall of Fame already." Alomar, 45, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011. The 12-time all-star second baseman and Morris were Toronto teammates in 1992 and 1993 when the Blue Jays captured consecutive World Series titles. Morris won 259 games over 18 seasons with Detroit, Minnesota, Toronto and Cleveland. Morris claimed more victories in the 1980s than any other pitcher and threw a dramatic complete-game, 10-inning shutout to win Game 7 of the 91 World Series for the Twins. But Morriss critics point to his lofty earned-run average (3.90) and failure to capture a Cy Young award -- given annually to the top pitchers in the American and National Leagues -- as reasons against his induction into Cooperstown. After leading Minnesota to its World Series crown, Morris signed as a free agent with Toronto and won 21 games -- tops in the majors -- with a 4.04 ERA in 92. Although he struggled in the playoffs, Morris was the Jays opening-day starter the following year. However, after posting a 7-12 record with a 6.19 ERA, Morris failed to see any playoff action in 93. The five-time all-star later signed with Cleveland but was released in early August with 10-6 record and 5.60 ERA. Morriss Hall of Fame quest isnt necessarily over. He could still be nominated by the Veterans Committee, which reconsiders the careers of retired players bypassed by baseball writers. However, Morris must now wait three years to become eligible for consideration. But Alomar is confident it will be well worth it. "No, its not over," Alomar said. "I think eventually hell be inducted into the Hall of Fame. "Sometimes its takes longer for others but as long as you get in, thats all that matters.dddddddddddd" Alomar was back on the Rogers Centre turf Thursday participating in the clubs winter training day in support of the Jays Care Foundation. Participants fundraised a minimum of $500 -- with proceeds supporting the Blue Jays Baseball Academy Rookie League national program -- to receive on-field instruction from Alomar and fellow former Jays Jesse Barfield, Pat Tabler, Lloyd Moseby and Homer Bush. Alomar said theres no question in his mind Morris deserves a Hall of Fame nod. "He was a good teammate," Alomar said. "I always said if you wanted a guy pitching on the mound in the seventh game of the World Series, it should be Jack Morris. "Thats the guy Id vote for." There will be a Toronto flavour during this years induction ceremony. Among those in this years Hall of Fame class are manager Bobby Cox and slugger Frank Thomas, both former Blue Jays. Cox managed in Toronto from 1982 to 85, then led the Atlanta Braves into the 92 World Series against his former club. "Bobby Cox had a great career," Alomar said. "I never played for him, I played against Bobby. "He was a great manager, he had a lot of players talk real highly of him. He had a great winning percentage and its well deserved that he was voted into the Hall of Fame." Cox, who guided Atlanta to the 95 World Series title, isnt the only big-name former manager heading into the Hall of Fame. Joining him will be Tony La Russa and Joe Torre, both multiple World Series champions who like Cox also won more than 2,000 career games over their stellar major-league careers. "Unbelievable," Alomar said. "The only sad thing is I didnt get the chance to play for any of them. "But Im a big fan of theirs, I have a lot of respect for them. Im honoured to be part of that day with them and I cant wait until that day comes when I can congratulate them personally." Thomas was twice named the American League MVP over his 19-year career and was regarded as one of the games top hitters. He spent the 07 season and 16 games of the 08 campaign with Toronto, and was a Blue Jay when he belted his 500th career homer June 28, 2007 versus Minnesota. WINNIPEG - Minnesota Wild 1 Winnipeg Jets 0 (Jets 35-35-10, Home 17-17-6) – It was the third time this season the Jets have been shut out, as Ilya Bryzgalov stopped all 24 shots he faced for his second straight shutout. The game was the final in the season series with the Wild winning four of five. It was the Jets 45th one-goal game of the season. Jim Slater played his 500th NHL game. Jets were minus Andrew Ladd, who is day to day, and Dustin Byfuglien, done for the season with a muscle tear. Evander Kane was back in the lineup after missing the Saturday game in Toronto (coachs decision). Goaltender Michael Hutchinson made his NHL debut and stopped 16 of 17 shots he faced. The first period was scoreless with the Jets outshooting the Wild 7-6 in a close checking affair. The only goal of the game came early in the second, just as a Jets penalty expired. Charlie Coyle got one through Hutchinson for his 12th of the year. Shots in the second were 7-5 Minnesota. The Jets came out strong in the third but could not get one past Bryzgalov. Jets outshot the Wild 12-4 in the third and 24-17 over the game. Hutchinson was initially a Boston draft pick in 2008, and signed with the Jets last summer. He started the year in the ECHL with the Jets farm team in Ontario, California. He was 22-4-2 with three shutouts, a goals against average of 2.08 and a save percentage of .921. He was goalie of the week on two different occasions. He was then moved up to the AHL with the St. Johns IceCaps, going 15-5-1 with two shutouts, GAA of 2.33 and save percentage of .923. For the 21st time Jacob Trouba led the Jets in ice time at 25:21, while Paul Postma and Michael Frolik led the way in shots on goal with four each. Bryan Little took 15 faceoffs raising his season total to a career high 1610. Coach Paul Maurice was very positive on the play of 24-year-old Hutchinson. "Solid, comfortable, square to the puck. His movements were right, gave his team a chance to win. The group gave him a chance to win with only 12 even strength shots against. Well see him one more time, maybe two, but for sure one." On the game, "I liked 50 minutes of the game. I didnt like from the start of the second to midway through the second. We stopped moving our feet, we stopped moving the puck. It was seven in 12 days for us from the west coast, then east, versus elite teams and teams fighting for a playoff spot." Jets close out their home schedule Thursday against Boston and the 82-game schedule in Calgary Friday. (Both games TSN Jets, TSN 1290). Jets have not won back-to-back games since coming out of the Olympic break with wins against Phoenix and Nashville. Dee Gordon Jersey . Their 38th instalment is arguably their biggest fight card to date, including three-title fights and a main event which was selected by the fans. The promotion boasts 14-straight years of business and is operated by MFC president Mark Pavelich, who is often overlooked in this country for the foundation hes established for MMA in Canada. "Im the forefather of MMA in this country and its going to continue to be that way -- When Im dead one day and they make (me) a statue. (Critics will) feel terrible about how they spoke about me. Thats whats going to happen." Pavelich told TSN.ca Founded in 2001, the MFC is the longest running MMA promotion in North America next to the UFC and has outlasted other organizations such as the IFL, Elite XC, DREAM, Affliction and most recently Strikeforce who have all ceased operations. "Im not a promoter; Im a fight pioneer thats what people dont understand. Fight promoters are guys that come around and do it once in a while Im a guy thats been in (the fight business) right from the beginning." While MMA has been thriving in Western Canada for years thanks to the success of the MFC, the province of Ontario hasnt been as responsive, only legalizing MMA back in 2010. Despite the UFC holding successful annual events in Toronto the last few years, local MMA promotions are essentially non-existent in Ontario. Even the MFC has only held one event in Ontario (MFC 29: Conquer, in Windsor, Ontario) and that was back in 2011. Whats keeping local MMA out of Ontario? According to Pavelich it is the governing bodies in charge and not Ontario Athletic Commissioner Ken Hayashi. "Its not (Hayashi), its the provincial government that makes these regulations and fees. Thats the thing they have to fix and alter before (the MFC) returns because these fees are astronomical, theyre the highest in the world. Las Vegas is cheaper (to run an event), Albertas cheaper, and Quebec is cheaper." Pavelich believes MMA cant grow properly in Ontario if the UFC is the only promotion running events. "Thats just something (the governing bodies) have to take a look at. If they really want to see MMA develop properly in Ontario, I think (the MFC) is the only brand of MMA that can actually do it. I mean if you want to wait around for the UFC to come once a year and you think thats going to develop MMA, its not going to happen that way." One of the catalysts for the MFCs success has been their out of the box type thinking, including their recent "Punch The Vote" contest where fans had the opportunity to pick which of the three title fights would serve as the main event for MFC 38. This included Canadian Smealinho Rama vs. Anthony Hamilton (for the heavyweight title), Sam Alvey vs. Jason South (for the 185lb title) and Anthony Birchack vs. Tito Jones (for the 135lb title). "What I loved about the voting -- It really showed were not a local a brand of MMA, were not even a Canadian brand of MMA, and we had people voting from all over the world. That proves thats lots of people are paying attention and thats really exciting." Proof of this was the Calgary native Rama who received the least amount of votes and bantamweights Birchack and Jones (both of whom are American) earning the main event slot. Rounding out MFC 38s main card, aside from the three title fights is a lightweight affair between Canadian Kurt Southern and Jason Novaes. Pavelich believes this rematch from MFC 36 will be nothing short of fireworks. "Kurt Southern is the best 155er in Canada. I think Novaes is a speccial individual as well.dddddddddddd Theyre going to go at it again for the second time and Im super excited about that. But like I said its unfortunate because there are three titles and nobody is talking about (this) fight." On the topic of fighters on the MFC roster, many fans have been wondering why welterweight superstar Dhiego Lima hasnt been competing inside the MFC ring this year. The answer is simple, hes a free-agent. "Problem with Dhiego is we have too many American Top Team guys in our organization. He was crossing (fights) with them -- a few times he was going to have title fights with other American Top Team guys and then it got really weird. They wouldnt fight each other." "We released him and let him go to where he wants to go, because (not fighting teammates) is going to be a problem." This is the second time Pavelich has let a Lima brother leave his organization as a free-agent. Dhiegos older brother Douglas left in the Alberta based promotion back in 2011 and has recently found success in in the Bellator Fighting Championships, winning two welterweight tournaments. "Im happy for (Douglas) although I dont think hes fighting for the right organization, sometimes agents make the mistake. I dont blame him whatsoever." "Go check Limas twitter today, you know what it still says "MFC Champ" at the top of it. That tells you whats in his heart. He told us at our home one time that made a mistake going to (Bellator). He could have walked into the UFC, and not just walked in, he could have walked in like a star" "I dont think he gets the publicity like he did when he was with the Maximum Fighting Championship any more. (Bellator) fails to promote that end of stuff" As the sport of MMA continues to grow, the addition of women fighting is always a hot topic. With UFC introducing females into their organization earlier this year and debuting them on the Ultimate Fighter, could we see the same thing in the MFC? "I respect all female fighters. Im a huge Miesha Tate fan, I like Sarah Kaufman. I think theyre great athletes. The problem is I dont think I can get a quality ten girls together to make this a great division." Another budding issue with the MFC is their broadcast rights. Currently their events only broadcast live on AXS TV (formally HDNet) in the States. Canadian cable companies pulled the plug on AXS TV in Canada last year. The only way fans can watch MFC events in Canada is on a two-week tape delay on speciality channel the Fight Network. "Andrew Simon and Mark Cuban are very intelligent at AXS TV and everybody knows that. I know they want to be in Canada. Sometimes being Mark Cuban is difficult because people might charge too much for what (the network) is really worth. The cable networks and the fans have to realize that its your obligation to tell the cable company that you want AXS TV (in Canada)" Despite these hurdles, Pavelich believes the MFC is a unique brand of MMA and fans always get their monies worth seeing their events live. "Come watch our brand of MMA and then you tell me after that you didnt get your $60 worth or your $600 worth its impossible! (Quality fights) is the only thing were good at and weve been good at it for 14-years." "We have real fighters in the MFC. You cant pick who you fight in the Maximum Fighting Championships, you go in these other organizations and you can pick who you fight. We tell you youre going to fight because its our job is to the fans and we want to put on the best fight possible" MFC 38: Behind Enemy Lines takes place this Friday (October 4th) at the Shaw Conference Centre in EdmontonWINNIPEG - Minnesota Wild 1 Winnipeg Jets 0 (Jets 35-35-10, Home 17-17-6) – It was the third time this season the Jets have been shut out, as Ilya Bryzgalov stopped all 24 shots he faced for his second straight shutout. Now the Royals will take the field on Saturday with a World Series lead for the first time in team history when they play Game 4 of the Fall Classic against the Giants at AT&T Park.Canadas most successful MMA promotion, The Maximum Fighting Championship returns this Friday night for MFC 38: Behind Enemy Lines at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. We tell you youre going to fight because its our job is to the fans and we want to put on the best fight possible" MFC 38: Behind Enemy Lines takes place this Friday (October 4th) at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton Alberta Canada and on AXS TV. (SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry has a very treatable form of cancer that one of his doctors says can potentially be cured through chemotherapy. Berry was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma by doctors at Emory Universitys Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta, the Chiefs said in a statement Monday. The news came two weeks after Berry was placed on the non-football illness list following the discovery of a mass in the right side of his chest, which had caused the safety discomfort during a Nov. 20 game against Oakland and led to fears he might have lymphoma. Further evaluation in Atlanta led to the diagnosis of Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system also known as Hodgkin disease. The five-year survival rate of the disease between 2004 and 2010 was 85.3 percent, according to the National Cancer Institute. This is a diagnosis that is very treatable and potentially curable with standard chemotherapy approaches, said Christopher R. Flowers, the director of Emorys lymphoma program. The goal of Mr. Berrys treatment is to cure his lymphoma and we are beginning that treatment now. Berry said in a statement issued through the Chiefs that he and his family are very grateful for the amount of support we have received over the last couple of weeks. I cant tell you enough how much I appreciate all the words of encouragement, the blessings and well wishes, he said. I want to thank the Emory University School of Medicine, along with Dr. Flowers and his team, for all of their hard work and effort in diagnosing and creating a plan for me to battle this thing. I will embrace this process and attack it the same way I do everything else in life. God has more than prepared me for it. For everyone sharing similar struggles, Im praying for you and keep fighting! Berry, 25, made the Pro Bowl three times in his first four NFL seasons. He appeared in six games this season. Kevin Johnson Jersey . Needing to bulk up on both sides of the line, the Falcons agreed to terms with guard Jon Asamoah, defensive end Tyson Jackson and defensive tackle Paul Soliai. Choos two-out single in the 11th inning drove in Todd Frazier from second base, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. Frazier walked to lead off the 11th against left-hander Javier Lopez (1-1) and went to second on Chris Heiseys sacrifice. After Devin Mesoraco was intentionally walked, pinch hitter Ryan Hanigan popped out before Choo came up with his second hit of the game, giving the Reds three straight wins for the first time since June 10-12 against the Cubs and thrilling a sellout crowd of 40,757. The left-handed Choo almost won the game in the ninth, but his sharp one-hopper up the middle with Mesoraco on second was picked off backhanded by second baseman Tony Abreu for a groundout. "Ive been saying that hes one of the best hitters in the game, and Im sticking with that," said Frazier, whose bobblehead was one of the games attractions. "He makes adjustments. Thats what he did his last two at-bats." Choos hard-hit ball to Abreu was typical of his recent bad luck, according to manager Dusty Baker. After a hot start, Choos average was .269 going into the game. "The guy he got the hit off of is tough against left-handers," Baker said. "Hes been hitting the ball well lately with nothing to show for it." Choo was working out rafter the game and wasnt available to speak to the media. J.J. Hoover (2-5), Cincinnatis seventh pitcher of the game, struck out four batters in two innings for the win. "We were down to our last man," Baker said. "We cleared the bench trying to win that game." The spiraling Giants have lost nine of their last 10 games, including eight of nine on the current road trip, and have scored two or fewer runs in 10 of their last 13 games. They fell six games below .500 for the first time since the last day of the 2008 season, which they finished 72-90. "We had a good effort from our bullpen," manager Bruce Bochy said. "We couldnt get a hit with men in scoring position. We have too many guys scuffling. I dont know why, whether they are pressing or trying too hard. I wish I had the answer. It seems like weve been saying this for quite a while. We need someone to give us a spark and get a big hit. When you get in a rut like this, you try too hard. We were playing to win one game to get us out of it." In their first game after being held hitless by Homer Bailey on Tuesday, the Giants needed just two batters to remove any doubt.dddddddddddd Abreu, San Franciscos No. 2 hitter against Tony Cingrani, reached second base with a bloop double down the right field line for the Giants first hit in 11 innings since Brandon Belt led off the fifth with a home run in an 8-1, six-inning loss to the Reds on Monday. The Reds took a 1-0 lead in the second, which Giants starter Barry Zito opened by hitting Jay Bruce with a pitch. Bruce went to third on Fraziers single to centre field and scored on Heiseys sacrifice fly. The Giants took their first lead of the series in the fifth when Blanco drew a two-out walk and Abreu followed with a 442-foot blast into the upper deck in left field on Cingranis 1-1 pitch. The homer was Abreus first since last Sept. 16 for Kansas City against the Angels. Cingrani, making his eighth start of the season and first since Johnny Cueto went on the disabled list June 29 with a strained back muscle, allowed four hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts in 5 2-3 innings. His walks were a single-game career high as a starter. Zito left the game after Choo and Zack Cozart led off the fifth with singles. Zito allowed seven hits and one run with a walk and three strikeouts. Heisey, on the disabled list from April 29 to June 25 with a strained right hamstring, tied the game with a 422-foot solo homer into the left field seats on a one-strike pitch from George Kontos. The homer was Heiseys third of the season and first since April 23 against the Cubs in Cincinnati. "It seemed like Heisey had no interest in the fastball," Kontos said. "It was a slider low and away. Unfortunately, it didnt bounce. He hit it off his front foot, and it carried. It is definitely frustrating." NOTES: Heisey made his first start in the field since coming off the disabled list on June 25. Heisey started at designated hitter in one game each at Texas and Oakland on Cincinnatis last road trip. ... The sellout crowd that showed up for Fraziers bobblehead night and postgame fireworks was Cincinnatis ninth of the season. The team had a club-record 15 last season. ... Tightness in Marco Scutaros back prompted Giants manager Bruce Bochy to give the second baseman Wednesday night off. ... HAMBURG, N.Y. - Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus will still try to resolve charges stemming from an alleged street-racing accident after failing to accept a plea deal on Tuesday. Dareus lawyer Michael Caffery turned down the prosecutions offer to plead guilty to reckless driving during a brief appearance in Hamburg Town court. Caffery instead said he intends to obtain more details on the prosecutions evidence in a bid to reach a resolution before a potential trial. Upon listening to the two sides, Judge Gerald Gorman put the case off until Sept. 9, when Dareus is next scheduled to appear in court. The Bills open the season two days earlier in Chicago. Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita told The Associated Press that the plea deal remains on the table. Dareus was charged with misdemeanour reckless endangerment after crashing his 2012 Jaguar into a tree on May 30. The accident occurred near a busy suburban Buffalo intersection and after Dareus was alleged to be racing Bills linebacker Jerry Hughes. The 24-year-old Dareus also was ticketed for numerous traffic violations, including leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and taking part in an illegal race. Sedita said he doesnt expect to file criminal charges against Hughes, who has already met with police and prosecutors. Dareus was dressed in a grey suit after he travelled from Alabama to be in court on Tuesday. The Bills 2011 first-round draft pick arrived and left the courthouse without commenting. The accident happened about a month after Dareus was arrested in Alabama and charged with possession of synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia. His lawyer has said there are plea discussions in that case. The off-field troubles could lead to the NFL taking disciplinary action against Dareus, including a suspension. The Bills are off until July 18, when players are scheduled to report for the start of training camp in suburban Rochester. ___ AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Ito Smith Jersey . MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Sam Reinhart spent plenty of time growing up in Vancouver playing hockey in an upstairs playroom with brothers Max and Griffin. The sons of longtime NHL defenceman Paul Reinhart broke a few windows, but it was worth it as they grew up in the game. Max was a third-round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2010, but it took Sam seeing Griffin put on a New York Islanders jersey as the fourth overall pick in 2012 to start to visualize what his draft-day moment could be like. Thatll come June 27 in Philadelphia as Sam Reinhart is expected to be one of the top three picks. Once that sinks in and Reinhart goes about preparing for his first NHL training camp, he will draw from the experience he had in early May with Canadas world hockey championship team. The Kootenay Ice forward thinks hes ready for the pros because he joined Team Canada for its training camp and exhibition game against Switzerland in Zurich. "I got a little taste of it at the international level for a couple days in Switzerland," he said Friday at the NHLs annual scouting combine. "It was pretty amazing to see how I handled practice one compared to practice three and really picked up the pace and felt comfortable pretty quick out there." Reinhart had to think quick well before he ever stepped onto the ice. He got the call from Hockey Canada on Friday night and needed to decide whether to get on a plane to Europe Saturday afternoon. "It was a pretty quick turnaround to kind of drop everything and go over there," the 18-year-old centre said. "It was a tough decision at the time but really turned out to be a positive experience. Its really paying off right now." Reinhart didnt have much more to prove. He had represented Canada the under-18 world championships twice, winning gold in 2013, and then was on this past years world-junior team. Named WHL player of the year for putting up 105 points in 60 games with the Ice, Reinhart is third among North American skaters in NHL Central Scoutings final rankings. But it didnt hurt Reinhart to show what he could do surrounded by players who will soon be his peers. He already knew Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly, Flames centre Sean Monahan and Canucks defenceman Jason Garrison, but being on the ice with them in that environment was a different story. "He didnt look out of place," Team Canada coach Dave Tippett said in a phone interview Friday afternoon. "He carried himself like a pro player. He picked up the things we were trying to do in the drills very well. The biggest thing you could tell, and its probably a little bit because of his upbringing -- he wasnt intimidated by the situation at all and just jumped in there and played." Even though Reinhart was an extra forward for the exhibition game, Tippett liked how he made the most out of his eight or nine minutes of ice time. Had an injury occurred before the team left Zurich, there was some discussion about adding Reinhart to the team, which wouldve made him the youngest by two months over Nathan MacKinnon. Reinhart worked to show what he could do if that happened. "Youre not going in with the mind-set that youre coming home in a couple days," he said. "You know obviously the odds are you will. But you never know what happens at that point." Ultimately, Reinhart got sent home while the Canadian team went on to Minsk. But not before he made a positive impression on Tippett and his staff. "Hes a mature kid," Tippett said. "Obviously I think being from a family that has grown up around pro hockey, that helps the situation. You could tell that he wasnt in awe of the situation at all. He just got in there and got to work and fit in well with the group." Reinhart is part of a bigger group at this weeks combine outside Toronto as one of 117 of the top prospects going through interviews and then fitness testing Saturday. Along with Kingston centre Sam Bennett and Barrie defenceman Aaron Ekblad, though, Reinhart is part of the small faction of potential No. 1 selections, whether the Florida Panthers keep or trade the pick. The six-foot-one, 186-pound playmaker is known for his hockey sense and vision. Of course there are things he feels like he needs to get better at, including lower-body strength. "It just doesnt happen over a summer, Ive been focusing on it for a long time now and I feel confident with it," Reinhart said. Another question is his speed, but if Reinhart himself was at all worried, Zurich made him feel better. "I felt with the pace over there I kept up pretty well," he said. "I felt really confident with it, leading into the next day and it was amazing how much you improved." Josh Allen Jersey . For Sweed, a second round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2008, this will be his second go around in the CFL after previously having spent time with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. You worry maybe about each guy not doing his job and continuing to play within the framework of the team. They are in first place this late in the season for the first time since they won the East in 1993-94.Kent Bazemore scored 17 points and Kyle Korver had 15. The Hawks made 12 of 23 3-pointers.Korver showed his former team why hes the best 3-point shooter in the league. He made one 3 late in the first half for a 43-35 lead, followed with another on the next possession, then watched as Mike Scott buried his own 3 to send the Hawks into halftime up 49-37.The Hawks used those three 3s in the final 1:13 of the half to help turn a five-point lead into a rout. They are on their second nine-game winning streak of the season. It kind of feels like a college team in a lot of ways, Korver said. In the NBA, the business side exists. Its on peoples minds. But I feel like everyone here has really bought in.Shelvin Macks 3 late in the third helped strettch the lead to 21 points and the Hawks rested about the entire starting lineup for most of the fourth quarter.dddddddddddd. When I go to Utah, I take a walk and try and get a lunch in the mountains or something because I dont know if Ill be back here. Brand played four seasons with the Sixers and helped lead them to Game 7 of the 2012 Eastern Conference semifinals. Brand said its been hard watching the Sixers struggle and wondered how much better off the franchise would be today had it stuck with a promising group of young players. I see the pieces around the league, Brand said. Lou Williams getting 30. Andre Iguodala having a great glue-guy personality. Even (Mo) Speights is getting 20 off the bench. (Nik) Vucevic (in Orlando) is 30 and 15 some nights.76ers: What tank? Dunker of the Night" from the winning

DENVER - Matt McBride hit his first career grand slam and Jorge De La Rosa pitched eight crisp innings, helping the Colorado Rockies cool off the Kansas City Royals with a 5-2 win on Wednesday night. The loss trims the Royals lead to one game over Detroit in the AL Central. Danny Duffy (8-11) was cruising along with a 2-1 lead until a two-out error by third baseman Christian Colon in the sixth opened the door for a big inning. McBride lined a fastball from Duffy into the left-field bleachers and then zipped around the bases in exhilaration. It was McBrides first homer since Sept. 25, 2012, and third of his career. He was called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs the day before. De La Rosa (13-8) allowed five hits and two run against his former team. He also got the Royals to hit into four double plays, tying a franchise record for most by a single pitcher in a game. LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect ninth for his 19th save in 20 chances. Duffy was in command most of the night as he allowed five hits and five runs, one earned, in seven innings. After getting two quick outs in the sixth, Colon fielded a grounder and threw a one-hopper that first baseman Billy Butler couldnt scoop. Wilin Rosario singled and Corey Dickerson drew a walk to set the stage for McBride. Another hard-luck loss for Duffy, whos the only AL pitcher with a losing record and an ERA under three runs. This was just the second time De La Rosa faced his old team. He spent two seasons with the Royals before being dealt to Colorado in 2008 for cash considerations. He was cashing in on his slider and changeup to get out of one jam after another. De La Rosas only mistake was in the second when he grooved a 91-mph fastball that Alex Gordon hit into the right-field bleachers. Erik Kratz brought in another run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth that scored Josh Willingham, who led off the inning with a double. The Royals finished interleague play with a 15-5 mark. DeRozan threw the Raptors sophomore and reigning NBA Slam Dunk champion lobs off the side of the backboard, he tossed bounce passes and threw alley-oops. Ross experimented with a variation of finishes. As it turns out, they could both use the practice. The Raptors duo will take part in State Farm All-Star Saturday Night - taking place in New Orleans on Feb. 15 - as Ross returns to defend his title in the Sprite Slam Dunk competition and DeRozan will make an unexpected appearance in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge. After edging out Jeremy Evans to win last years contest in Houston, Ross will have his work cut out for him this time around. For the first time since 1988, three all-stars - Pacers forward Paul George, Wizards guard John Wall and Blazers guard Damian Lillard - will compete in the event. Rounding out the field is Warriors forward Harrison Barnes and Kings rookie guard Ben McLemore. "Everybodys kind of a threat," Ross said of this years competition. "Its going to be fun, everybody wants to win." What will Ross do for an encore? The 23-year-old says hes still searching for ideas, scouring YouTube, Twitter and even using video games to brainstorm. "Everybodys done everything," he continued. "I dont know, its like how many times can you do the same dunk before people get tired of it? So its hard to find new dunks but at the same time you always find something a little different." The one thing he could say with certainty is he will not be using props. While Ross has expected to defend his crown since last season, DeRozans debut in the Skills Challenge comes as a surprise, even to him. "I kind of got peer pressure into doing it," said the first-time all-star, who will also be assisting Ross in the dunk-off. DeRozan initially declined the invitation but his agent twisted his arm and eventually he came around. "I changed my mind. I said Ill try it, why not." "I thought it would be fun," he said of the event, which is usually exclusive for point guardss but DeRozan hopes to start a new era of shooting guards entering and conquering the ball handling/passing obstacle course.dddddddddddd "Everybody doesnt get a chance to be a part of All-Star Weekend and the big thing for me is to go out there and have fun. I think it will be cool to go out there and represent my team as much as I can and you never know, I might mess around and win it." Along with DeRozan, the participants will consists of Lillard, Goran Dragic, Reggie Jackson and rookies Giannis Antetokounmpo, Michael Carter-Williams, Victor Oladipo and Trey Burke. DeRozan, who has previously competed in the Slam Dunk contest on two separate occasions, will be the first Raptor to appear in the Skills Challenge. Although he wouldnt tip his hand, his strategy centres on speed over precision. "I look at it like, a lot of players go out there and try to do it cool," said the fifth-year guard. "I always used to say, you can go a little faster. So Ive got my whole mindset to try and win it." The format in both events will be tweaked this season. The Skills Challenge will feature four teams of two players each competing in a two-round timed relay-style course. The fastest team from each conference will advance to the second and final round, where the winning pair will be crowned. The Dunk Contest participants will also compete in teams, divided by conference. The competition will tip off with a "freestyle round" where the dunkers for each the East and the West will have 90 seconds to showcase as many dunks as they choose. At the conclusion of the opening round, the panel of judges will vote for a winning conference. The winning conference will decide whether its competitors will dunk first or second in the following round, a head-to-head "battle round". In the battle round dunkers from opposing conferences will face off against each other, with the judges choosing a winner in each battle. The first team to win three battles will win the competition. Fans will then vote on the "Dunker of the Night" from the winning team. Ross is the fifth Raptor to participate in the event, joining DeRozan, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady and Jamario Moon. half of the season to meet with player

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Kaleb Tarczewski scored 11 points and No. 1 Arizona opened its Pac-12 season with a 60-25 rout of Washington State on Thursday night, shattering the McKale Center record for fewest points by a team. The 25 points were the fewest for Washington State since the Cougars had that many at Idaho on Jan. 15, 1938. The previous McKale record for fewest points was 37 by Northern Arizona in 1989. The Wildcats (14-0, 1-0) took a 21-2 lead and were up 28-7 at halftime. The Cougars (7-6, 0-1) shot 9 for 45 from the field and they needed to make a series of shots late to reach that. Washington State was without leading scorer DaVonte Lacy, who underwent an emergency appendectomy on Saturday. Junior Longrus led the Cougars with six points. Tarczewski, back after missing two games with a sprained ankle, was the only Arizona player to score in double figures. Washington States nine field goals were also a McKale record, breaking the previous mark of 13, also set by Northern Arizona in that 1989 game. So was the Cougars 20 per cent shooting, breaking the mark of 20.3 per cent set by NAU that night 24 years ago. The Cougars missed their first 16 shots before Royce Woolridge made a layup with 6:42 left in the half. Arizona led 21-2 on Johnsons 3-pointer with 8:18 to go until the break. Washington State made it 21-7 before the Wildcats scored the final seven points of the half to lead 28-7. The Cougars were 2 of 20 from the field in the first half, breaking the McKale record of four field goals set twice, most recently by Arizona State in 1991. It was also a record for fewest points by a team in a half and fewest combined points in a half. The old record was 37 against Oregon in 1985. The 9.5 per cent shooting percentage was also an arena record for a half. Washington State officials were unsure what the team records for fewest points or field goals in a half were but said Thursdays totals were the lowest since at least 2001. Arizona officials didnt know if the Washington State marks were an opponent low for any Wildcats game, including those before McKale was built. Lacy, who is averaging 18.9 points per game, will also miss Sundays game at Arizona State. Custom New York Jets Jerseys . Bettman made his prediction when the Canadian dollar was worth 89 cents U.S. Since then, it has plunged 10 per cent and on Friday morning, was trading at about 80 cents. At the end of the 2012-13 NHL season, the Canadian dollar was worth 98 cents. Canadian NHL team revenues now are worth 18 per cent less in U.S. dollars. It’s near impossible to predict the dollar’s vagaries -- CIBC predicted the Canadian dollar would slip to 81 cents, but not until September -- and its difficult to say how the Canadian dollar’s swoon will affect the cap. “I have an idea of how it might affect the cap. It’s not as much as people are suggesting,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told TSN. “You also need to understand that (hockey related revenue) and cap numbers are all a product of year-long averages, not snapshots in time.” Asked whether the dollar’s decline could push down the salary cap by a few million dollars, Daly said, “I don’t expect it to be nearly that much. The NHL had anticipated that revenue in 2015-16 might eclipse $4 billion. To understand how changes in the value of the Canadian dollar might impact league-wide revenue, you’d need to have a clear understanding of how much income the league generates in Canada. Canadian team ticket sales account for about 11 per cent of overall league income and the NHL’s new $5.2 billion TV deal with Rogers - worth $433 million a year - is another 11 per cent. Then there’s Canadian corporate sponsorships, local broadcast contracts and other income, such as licensing deals. Sports banking officials who have worked on NHL team finances say at least one quarter of the league’s overall income comes from Canadian sources. There’s another pressure that could also drive down the cap next season. When Bettman predicted the $73 million cap, he was likely assuming that the NHLPA would, as it has done consistently in past years, opt to trigger a five per cent cap inflator. Pushing the overall salary cap limit higher drives up the amount of money available for potential free agents - bad news for a spartan free agent class this summer that’s headed by Martin St. Louis - but it also leads to higher escrow collections for all players.dddddddddddd Players have become increasingly conflicted about this, several NHL player agents say. “Players are worried about paying additional escrow,” Ian Pulver, a former NHLPA executive and current player agent said in an interview. “It’s a vicious cycle. Over the course of 10 years, players have voted to increase the cap, to ride with increasing revenue.” Pulver said it would be a mistake not to trigger the escalator clause. Because there are a couple of bumps along the way shouldn’t mean the players shouldnt continue to increase the cap and force the major players — the NHL, the clubs and the NHLPA - to grow revenues. To vote against the increase of the cap because of a fear of escrow runs counter to the collective good and common sense. Last summer offered a glimpse at the angst players are feeling when they voted on whether to include the revenue from the league’s new $5.2 billion contract in this season’s cap. The players initially voted no, 16-14. But then NHLPA executive director Don Fehr called for a second vote, a source told TSN, and the players agreed that half the value of the TV deal would be included. That boosted the cap limit by about $1 million. Since then, Pulver and other agents say players have remained upset over the high escrow that’s withheld from their pay checks. This season, 14 per cent of player salaries are being withheld until the season’s final revenue figures are established. “Given that the value of player contracts is, and has remained, less than the full face value of their contracts over the last few seasons, players will certainly discuss over the next few months whether to continue to maintain the five per cent growth factor every year,” NHLPA spokesman Jonathan Weatherdon wrote in an e-mailed statement. “This will allow the executive board to make its decision with the benefit of a full discussion of the issues by the players. There’s a real chance players next summer will vote down the five per cent escalator, which, combined with the plummeting Canadian dollar, could mean a salary cap that peaks at closer to $70 million. The issue of the cap escalator will be a main topic of discussion when Fehr makes his tour of Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles during the second half of the season to meet with player agents. Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - John Tavares tied the game late in the third period and won it in overtime with an impressive sequence, powering the New York Islanders to a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday. Tavares lifted the stick of Devils defenseman Adam Larsson below the goal line to acquire the puck, moved in on net and finished the play with a wrister past the blocker of Keith Kinkaid for the win. We just kept shooting pucks and it finally paid off, Tavares said. I just took it to the net. The goalie committed to me and I hit the far side. Tavares also assisted on a goal by Josh Bailey and Jaroslav Halak made 21 saves in his sixth straight start for the Islanders, who ended a two-game skid. Travis Zajac and Scott Gomez lit the lamp for the Devils, who earned a point after being held to just 14 shots in Thursdays 3-0 loss at Boston. Kinkaid turned aside 28 shots in defeat. New Jersey took a 2-1 lead after Adam Henrique beat Halak to the puck behind the cage and sent it to Gomez, who snapped a shot into the vacant net at 7:23 of the third period. Tavares gathered the puck after it took an odd carom off the boards behind the New Jersey net and sent it off Kinkaids skate and into the net from a sharp angle for a 2-2 game with 6:13 remaining in regulation. Neither team lit the lamp during a sluggish opening 20 minutes and the Islanders owned a 7-2 shot advantage heading into the second. The Devils had a goal waved off 4:12 into the middle frame. Patrik Elias blasted a shot from the left circle and Zajac followed it up and put the puck in past the goal line, but the referee had already blown the play dead. The duo would not be denied later in the frame. Zajac skated across the slot to the right circle and sent a pass to Elias below the goal line. Elias quickly dished the puck back to Zajac, who rifled a shot over the shoulder of Halak for a 1-0 Devils lead with 8:03 to play in the middle stanza. Bailey deflected Calvin de Haans point shot over the glove of Kinkaid for a 1-1 game just 1:02 into the third. Massa refused repeated instructions to move aside for the trailing Valtteri Bottas in the closing stages of the race in Malaysia, prompting a post-race team meeting which Massa says vindicated his stance. "I believe what has happened in the last race will not happen again," Massa said on Thursday, ahead of this weekends Bahrain Grand Prix. "It was not correct and not the right moment for this to happen." Massas perceived insubordination, in just his second race for the team after moving across from Ferrari, had the potential to cause a fissure between him and team officials or Bottas, but the Brazilian felt everything can be smoothed over. "I dont think its damaged my relationshipps," Massa said, adding that the team was "the first one to say sorry.dddddddddddd" Massa said he found it "funny" that the radio instruction, played on the live race broadcast, was almost identical in wording to the 2010 German Grand Prix when he was told to move aside for then teammate Fernando Alonso. On that occasion, Massa did move aside and Ferrari was heavily fined for issuing team orders, which were banned at the time but are now permitted. "Team orders are part of our sport and need to be part of our sport, but when its necessary," Massa said. He denies he was pulling rank on his junior teammate Bottas. "I never ask any team to be the No. 1, the team needs to be equal," Massa said. This time, the New York Yankees had the biggest swing on the South Side of Chicago. Ellsbury homered with two outs in the 10th inning, and the Yankees snapped an eight-game road losing streak against the White Sox with a 4-3 victory on Saturday. "I knew I hit it well," Ellsbury said. "I thought I might have hit it a little too high, but great feeling once it went out. Excited to get that win." The Yankees scored three times in the ninth against Ronald Belisario and then grabbed their first lead of the day when Ellsbury connected against Zach Putnam (2-1) for his second homer. Dellin Betances (3-0) pitched a perfect inning for the win and David Robertson finished for his 10th save in 11 chances, bouncing back nicely after yielding Adam Dunns game-ending homer in Chicagos 6-5 victory on Friday night. Adam Eaton singled and stole second with two down, but Robertson struck out Gordon Beckham to end the game. "Last night was a tough one. The team battled really hard, we got the lead and I wasnt able to nail it down," Robertson said. "They did the same thing today and I was not going to let them down today." John Danks pitched eight shutout innings for the White Sox, who had won four of five. Beckham and Eaton had three hits apiece. "Just trying to get the ball, go, throw strikes and let these guys work behind me," Danks said. "It worked out. They made some good plays on some balls that were well placed and caught some breaks. You need that in this game, especially against that team." Danks handed a 3-0 lead over to Belisario after his best start of the season. The right-hander yielded a one-out single to Ellsbury, but was in position for his third save when he struck out Mark Teixeira for the second out. Then it all fell apart in a hurry for the closer, who has allowed at least one run in each of his last three outings. Ellsbury took second on fielders indifference and scored on Alfonso Sorianos ground-rule double. Yangervis Solarte singled home Soriano and moved to second when Belisario walked Ichiro Suzuki. Pinch-hitter Brian McCann then completed the comeback with a bloop single into centre field, driving in Solarte with the tying run. Brendan Ryan grounded out to end the inning, and the crowd of 33,413 booed as Belisario made his way to the dugout. "Obviously huge at-bats to get us going," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "We hadnt done much up to that point." Danks allowed three hits, struck out four and walked none. The left-hander was 1-4 with an 8.23 ERA in his previous five starts. Teixeiras ground-rule double in the fourth was New Yorks only hit before John Ryan Murphy and Ryan had consecutive two-out singles in the eighth. But Danks got Brett Gardner to fly out to right to end the inning. Vidal Nuno pitched seven-plus innings for New York in the longest start of the season for the converted reliever. He allowed nine hits, struck out five and walked one. The White Sox did all their damage against Nuno in the first. Eaton and Beckham started the inning with consecutive singles, and Dayan Viciedo then made it 1-0 with a double into the gap in left-centre. Dunn drove in Beckham with a sacrifice fly and Viciedo came home on Alexei Ramirezs groundout. "I was up in the zone the first inning, first half of the lineup and it was just making pitches," Nuno said. "It was a long game, guys came back and it was unbelievable how we came back and kept fighting." Six years of waiting are finally over for the Dallas defenceman. Daley had a goal and an assist, Kari Lehtonen recorded his fifth shutout of the season, and the Stars clinched their first playoff berth since 2008 with a 3-0 victory against the St. Louis Blues on Friday night. "Im having trouble smiling, and I just cant stop smiling right now," said Daley, who took 20 stitches after a loss to Columbus on Wednesday. "Weve been battling hard for a long time. Its just kind of like a little bit of a relief." The Stars missed the post-season a franchise-record five straight seasons after never going more than one without a playoff trip since moving to Dallas in 1993. The longest previous drought was three seasons in Minnesota in the early 1970s. St. Louis, outshot 40-22, dropped its fifth straight game for the first time since February of last year. The playoff-bound Blues also had their hopes of being the top seed in the Western Conference dashed. "They played a very fast game ... very desperate," Blues defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk said. "They played to get into the playoffs and they really showed it, and we need to get more of that into our game, as well." Daley, the only holdover from the team that lost to Detroit in the Western Conference finals six years ago, and Lehtonen were on the ice three years ago for a season-ending loss at Minnesota when Dallas just needed to win to move on. Dallas victory eliminated Phoenix in the race for the Wests final playoff spot and kept the Stars from having to worry about a potential win-or-go-home game at the Coyotes on Sunday. "Im old enough that I dont think about those kinds of things too much," Lehtonen said. "Not too much was needed from me. Our guys outshot them two to one and put the pucks in the net, so that made it a lot easier for me." Daley put Dallas up 1-0 when he stole the puck during a series of St. Louis turnovers and raced ahead of everyone before beating Ryan Miller on the glove side early in the second period. Tyler Seguins team-lleading 37th goal came on the power play 10 seconds after the Blues Dmitrij Jaskin was called for hooking.dddddddddddd Daley sent a pass to Jamie Benn, who zipped his second assist through the crease to an open Seguin for an easy shot past Miller. After Ryan Garbutt tipped in Alex Goligoskis shot from the point in the third period of the home finale, the last 15 minutes were basically a celebration for the sellout crowd that included a fan with a No. 99 jersey that read "Stanley" -- a reference to the franchises only Stanley Cup title in 1999 when the hockey playoffs were a rite of spring in North Texas. St. Louis didnt get a power play until the third period and couldnt convert on two chances with the man advantage in the final 12 minutes. After the Stars killed the last one, the crowd stood and cheered for the final two minutes, counting down the last few seconds. "I thought the atmosphere was just playoff-like," said Lindy Ruff, the former Buffalo coach brought in by first-year general manager Jim Nill, who got quite a present for his 56th birthday. "The energy, after the third goal went in, its like everybody else took a breath too, We got some breathing room; Order me another beer!" The Blues knew T.J. Oshie would be sidelined after he took a hit to the head that resulted in a four-game suspension for Minnesotas Mike Rupp. They also missed former Stars captain Brenden Morrow, who injured his foot in practice before the Wild game, and Vladimir Sobotka and Derek Roy, who got hurt during that game. St. Louis lost centre Patrik Berglund to an apparent arm injury in the third period against the Stars. NOTES: Taylor Lipsett, a Dallas-area resident who won a 2014 Paralympic gold medal with the U.S. in Sochi, was honoured before the game. ... The Stars signed popular broadcasters Ralph Strangis and Daryl Reaugh to contract extensions. Strangis, the play-by-play voice, has been with the franchise since it was still in Minnesota, and colour analyst Reaugh is in his 18th season with the team. ... Because of the rash of injuries, the Blues recalled Adam Cracknell, Keith Aucoin and Ty Rattie from their Chicago AHL affiliate. Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon had wrist surgery on Tuesday, but should be ready by spring training. The procedure repaired the extensor retinaculum in Gordons right wrist, which bothered the All-Star left fielder for most of the 2014 season. Alex reached out just prior to Christmas to report that he was experiencing some right wrist discomfort during his offseason workouts, said Royals trainer Nick Kenney in a statement released by the team Tuesday. We asked him to come to Kansas City after the holiday for an evaluation and it was determined he needed to have this repaired now to avoid any further complications and any delay in his start to the upcoming season. Gordon helped the Royals win the AL pennant last season by hitting .266 with 19 home runs, 74 RBI and a .351 on-base percentage. He also picked up his fourth straight Gold Glove Award. The reinstatement will make Browner a free agent as his contract with the Seahawks ended after this season. Browners agent, Peter Schaffer, also confirmed the reinstatement to The Associated Press. "I now have the opportunity to prove to the fans and my teammates how important this sport is to me," Browner wrote. "I realize now more than ever that being part of the NFL is not a right, but a privilege." The suspension was the second in two seasons for Browner. He was suspended four games last season for violating the leagues policy on performance-enhancing substances. "Thank you to all who have gone out of their way to show their support. I will live up to your expectations of me." Browner was in his third season with the Seahawks when the suspension came down. He started all 26 games he played for the Seahawks and had 19 tackles, one interception and 10 passes defenced this season. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2011 when he had 23 passes defenced and six interceptions, but had not been able to match those numbers in the subsequent two seasons.
