(SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Bruins hope to continue building momentum when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets in Saturdays battle at Nationwide Arena. Boston won its last two games prior to the NHLs brief break for Christmas and it enters tonight having gained points in five of its last six games. Tonights matchup gives Boston an excellent opportunity to post its first three-game winning streak since Nov. 15-21. The Bruins have dominated the Blue Jackets over the years and have won the last seven meetings in this series. Columbus, which hasnt defeated the Bruins since Jan. 21, 2010, lost a 4-3 shootout decision against visiting Boston on Nov. 21. It was the Blue Jackets fourth straight home loss in this matchup. Boston went 2-0 on its recent homestand and completed the perfect stay at TD Garden with Tuesdays 5-3 win over Nashville. Brad Marchand and Loui Eriksson each scored twice to lead the Bruins offense, while Tuukka Rask made 22 saves for the win. David Krejci also lit the lamp for the Bruins, who avenged a 3-2 shootout loss in Nashville on Dec. 16. It was good, I think it was good to see glimpses of how we know we can play and we know its still in here, said Marchand. The victory pushed Bostons home record to 11-6-2. The Bs are just 7-8-1 on the road. Rask boasts a 4-1-0 record and 1.56 goals against average in his career against Columbus and is expected to start again tonight. The Blue Jackets are hoping to rebound from their first regulation defeat of the month when they take the ice Saturday in the fourth part of a five-game homestand. Columbus entered Tuesdays game against Nashville with an 8-0-1 record in December, but the hosts fell 5-1 to the Predators. It was the Jackets second loss in three games after beginning the month with seven straight victories. Jackets netminder Sergei Bobrovsky was blitzed for four goals on 30 shots before being pulled in the third period. Curtis McElhinney stopped four of the five shots he faced in the games final 12 minutes. Alexander Wennberg produced a late tally for the Blue Jackets, who fell to 7-9-2 as the home team. Were disappointed because we hung our goalie out to dry, Jackets winger Nick Foligno said. We let them dictate play. If you allow them to take over games, youll be playing catch-up. Thats what happened. Backup Curtis McElhinney is expected to start tonight over Bobrovsky. He is 0-2-0 with a 3.04 GAA in two career outings against the Bruins. There is also a chance winger Scott Hartnell could return from a broken finger tonight. Hartnell, who missed the last five games, skated a few times last week and is questionable for Saturday. The veteran forward has six goals and 11 assists in 28 games during his first season with the Jackets. Columbus will complete its homestand Wednesday against Minnesota before beginning January on a four-game road trip. The six-foot 196-pound native of Salmon Arm, B. NEW ORLEANS -- The Saints and Jonathan Goodwin have agreed to a one-year contract bringing the veteran centre back to New Orleans, the club announced Tuesday. The 35-year-old Goodwin has spent the past three seasons with San Francisco, playing in three straight NFC title games and a Super Bowl. Goodwin played for New Orleans from 2006 to 2010, starting the last three of those seasons. He was named to a Pro Bowl and won a Super Bowl in the 2009 season. His new deal is worth $955,000, a person familiar with negotiations told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because financial terms were not released. The Saints also signed defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick to a one-year contract, general manager Mickey Loomis said. Prior to the re-acquisition of Goodwin, second-year pro Tim Lelito and undrafted rookie Matt Armstrong were the top candidates to take over the Saints starting centre job, which was vacated by Brian de la Puente when he left for Chicago in free agency. The experience of the 6-foot-3, 318-pound Goodwin, a 12-year veteran, will give him an edge. Lelito saw limited action last season, but only as a reserve guard, while his work as a backup centre was limited to practice. At the same time, the Saints see the 6-4, 315-pound Lelito as a promising prospect and also have asserted that a young centre can thrive in their system, in part because quarterback Drew Brees calls out the bulk of blocking adjustments at the line of scrimmage and in part because whhoever plays centre will have a pair of veteran Pro Bowlers on either side of him in guards Jahri Evans and Ben Grubbs.dddddddddddd However, because off-season practices do not involve full contact, it has been difficult for coaches to fully evaluate how ready Lelito is to be a regular centre. "Tim is someone that has handled the transition right now pretty well," coach Sean Payton said last week. "But he is going to have to, when we get into training camp, do it in a live setting." Like Lelito, the 6-2, 302-pound Armstrong played at Grand Valley State. Last season, he was named by the Rimington Award committee as the nations top Division II centre. Evans is the only starter on the offensive line who also started during Goodwins last season in New Orleans. Goodwin was teammates with Zach Strief for five seasons, but Strief did not take over as the starter at right tackle until 2011, the year Goodwin left for San Francisco. On the left side of the line are Grubbs, who was acquired as a free agent in 2012, and tackle Terron Armstrong, who was drafted in 2013. The 6-4, 305-pound Deaderick is a four-year NFL veteran who has played in 47 career games with 15 starts. He joined the NFL as New Englands seventh-round pick in 2010 and spent three seasons with the Patriots. Last season, he played for Jacksonville, appearing in 13 games. He has been credited with 50 tackles in his career, along with 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two passes defenced.
